The Family Business | Madison,

The Family Business's Bio
Ask a group of ten listeners to describe the sound of the Family Business and you may very well get ten different answers. Ask the band however, and the answer is simple - rock n' roll. The fact of the matter is, this band dabbles in a multitude of genres, drawing as much influence from American blues and folk as they do from 70's stadium rock. The band has the uncanny ability to navigate a wide vernacular of music styles within a single set, or even within a single song. No matter what your musical taste, this band will make you move.

After forming in 2005 in rural Monroe, Wisconsin, the band relocated to Madison and soon teamed up with Broadjam founder and producer Roy Elkins to begin work on their debut album, Fedora. The album was received well, earning them a Madison Area Music Award for Blues Song of the Year in 2009 and a spot in the Red Gorilla Music Festival, which runs concurrently with South by Southwest each year in Austin, TX.

In 2011, the band recruited the help of engineer Mike Zirkel (Garbage, Death Cab for Cutie) to record their sophomore release, Nightmares and Wildest Dreams. Released in 2012, the album showcases the more raucous side of the band, extensively featuring the dual guitar threat of Eric Ziegler and vocalist/guitarist Alec White. The band is currently in the process of recording their third album, which the group has promised will display a more subtle side of their songwriting abilities.

The band's ability to write songs across a plethora of genres has garnered them a good amount of regional attention, paving the way to perform at Madison’s Rhythm and Booms Festival and Milwaukee’s Summerfest. Their songwriting ability also earned them a victory in 105.5 Triple M’s Project M competition – which pitted 40 of Madison’s best bands against one another in weekly songwriting challenges. With a growing fan base throughout the Midwest and a third album in the works, the future looks bright for these Wisconsin rock n' rollers.
